Saving children’s lives

According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), the prognosis for childhood cancer varies significantly based on geographic location. While more than 80% of pediatric cancer cases in high-income countries result in successful treatment, this figure drops to less than 30% in many low- and middle-income nations.

The diminished survival rates in these regions stem from various factors, including delayed diagnoses, challenges in obtaining accurate diagnostic assessments, limited accessibility to therapeutic interventions, treatment abandonment, toxicity-related fatalities, and preventable relapses. Enhancing the accessibility of childhood cancer care, encompassing essential medications and advanced technologies, proves to be highly cost-effective and feasible, contributing to improved survival rates across diverse settings.

Recent research underscores a rising trend in the incidence rate of childhood cancer in Iran, with a notable impact on crucial medication access since the re-imposition of unilateral sanctions in 2018.

In response to this critical situation, the establishment of Humane Globe aimed to collaborate with vulnerable communities, working tirelessly to improve pediatric health outcomes. The organization, a voluntary, non-profit, non-governmental association (UID: CHE-177.470.648), comprises dedicated Swiss university graduates and alumni. Despite the complexities of global challenges, the young and dynamic team at Humane Globe remains committed to making a positive impact on the lives of children and families facing adversity.

Strategies to save children’s lives and meet their need in low-income families include:

  • Medications procurement to underprivileged children affected by life-threatening diseases.
  • Food provision for children in underdeveloped regions.
  • Distribution of emergency equipment to regions impacted by natural hazards, such as floods and earthquakes.
  • Supporting projects to guarantee education and training of children during school interruptions, such as education during COVID-19 and beyond.
  • Ensuring continuous income for the low-income families of children through different activities, such as farming and local services. Such activities would, in turn, provide food security for local communities.

What we do:

  • Humane Globe, as a Swiss association, gathers donations from all around the world.
  • In the next step, it purchases chemotherapy medicines from reputable pharmaceutical whole sellers and companies.
  • Medicines will be officially shipped through the Swiss customs and air cargo to the destination medical centers.
  • The parcels will be picked up by the representative of the medical centers to be used for the children with cancer.

First medication parcel

The first medication parcel of the “Humane Globe Association” was shipped in January 2021.
The medications were delivered to the department of Hematology of Amirkabir University hospital, where children were able to receive treatment with these medications.
